Purple Summer Dream Tea

When I perform bodywork I can get overheated, especially as we move into Pitta dominant energy that Summer brings. I can't wait to hydrate with something cooling and nourishing while making sure to support my sensitive digestive fire at the same time.

Here's a delicious and beautiful blend I call Purple Summer Dream.💜🌞✨

This combination of herbs is always very supportive for both the digestive and nervous systems during the highly transformative and intense time that Summer ushers in.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp Licorice Root

  • 1/2 tsp Fennel Seeds

  • 1 tsp Peppermint

  • 1/2 tsp Hibiscus

  • 1/2 heaping Tbsp Butterfly Blue Pea

Directions:

Poor 16oz warm water over herbs.

Let steep for at least 10 mins.

For extra cooling, you could pop it in the fridge and enjoy it between meals.

Avoid drinking cool drinks with meals.

All of the herbs in Purple Summer Dream remove excess heat from the body and yet all play a beneficial role in keeping the digestive system in balance.

Thanks to licorice root's mucilaginous and demulcent quality, it soothes and protects the digestive tract. Being a root, it's great for grounding those with excess vata and it's slippery quality helps alleviate constipation. Also, licorice root has a naturally sweet taste, so it does not require any added sweetener for this blend.

Butterfly blue pea (one of my faves!), with its gorgeous cerulean blue color has a strong connection to the crown chakra, which serves as an ally to help you connect to your higher consciousness. It is also packed with antioxidants called anthocyanins. This lovely herb also helps reduce anxiety and enhances mood.

Fennel seeds make a highly revered tea in Ayurveda. They enhance agni (digestive fire) but they do not overheat which helps avoid aggravating Pitta. It also pacifies flatulence and indigestion issues like heartburn and gastritis.

Peppermint is such an ally when it comes to reducing heat. In addition, it's so supportive of the digestive system by calming the stomach muscles, promoting circulation, and improving the flow of bile.

Hibiscus is a Summer treasure, as well. It has moistening and anti-inflammatory qualities and is also high in antioxidants. It is a natural diuretic so beware that this one could make you pee!
