Not only is meditation a practice to cultivate your higher consciousness but it is also a powerful practice to manage stress and anxiety and to increase intuition, creativity, patience, and tolerance. All of these will bring about healthier functioning of the brain, and in turn, a greater sense of well-being and calm in your life.
One way that can be particularly soothing is to meditate with a kaleidoscope, like the one here. When we look at a kaleidoscope, it bypasses the perceptual networks in the brain that are associated with stored information (past or future thoughts) and puts us right into the present. This can be very useful when needing to quickly get out of an anxious or negative mindset.
Any time we practice visual or auditory meditation, like the one here, over time and with practice it will thicken your prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain that’s involved in focus, planning, and impulse control. It also raises your brain’s level of dopamine, the neurotransmitter that gives you feelings of pleasure, satisfaction, and motivation and directly affects sleep, memory, mood, concentration, and movement.
Mediating on a moving image like a kaleidoscope with soothing music is also a very potent way to help counteract the negative effects of excess use of tech devices today that can shorten our attention span, disrupt our focus, and exacerbate anxiety. In addition, those with conditions like Parkinson's, ADHD, OCD, and anxiety disorders could benefit from this natural method of boosting dopamine.
I would suggest looking at a moving kaleidoscope along with music you find soothing for any amount of time that feels good to you. For an additional layer of medicine for your brain, listen to music using binaural beats or music that puts you into alpha or theta brain wave states.
